The Story Behind the Piece

“"Tender Touch" is a lifesize sculpture of a young woman in period clothing from the turn of the twentieth century. In one arm she holds an infant swathed in a blanket, with the other holding the hand of a young girl with a crutch who is leaning against her.

This is a piece of universal appeal with its strong visual and expressive message of care and service. In content and form, the sculpture conveys both the need for and the desire to extend a tender touch.” – George Lundeen
