“In 1776 Thomas Jefferson sat and put onto parchment his vision of a new nation. With my tools and a few hundred pounds of clay I have endeavored to capture this moment in time. I have relied on many portraits done of Jefferson in his lifetime, including the bust by Houdon and oil paintings by Rembrandt Peale, Thomas Sully, Gilbert Stuart and Charles Wilson Peale.” – George Lundeen
