The Story Behind the Piece
“This piece was started about 1978 when I first made a sculpture named, "Departure". The subject of that piece was a young couple on a bench. Some years later, I decided to make this piece, "Valentine,” when in my mind it was the same couple some 50 years later. Both pieces show the simple joy of a lasting commitment.” – George Lundeen
