The Story Behind the Piece
“This subject idea for this sculpture came to me from a friend whose whole life centered around his mailbox. My friend, Ed Trumble, had a company called “Leanin’ Tree”, a card company with its focus on images of the American West, its landscapes, wildlife, and the characters who made it what it was. Ed had a wonderful museum at his headquarters in Boulder, Colorado. Along with the many paintings and sculpture in his museum, he also had a very interesting outdoor sculpture garden.
Some years ago over lunch, we wrestled with creating a sculpture for the entrance of his museum. After a few drawings of several ideas, we settled on the old cowboy leanin’ on his mailbox, his trusty dog at his side, waiting for the mail to arrive…hence the title “Waitin’ For An Answer.”” – George Lundeen
